I've been playing it actively for around 2 years. I really like the game. It brings you great joy when you know you are winning and you achieved that with your mind against other human mind. You proved to be better tactician.

I haven't played it in a hot minute. I don't have an actual chess set to play with.

As much as I have tried to play chess in the past, I was never able to fully get the hang of it and never fully understood it to be able to play like some people do.

Checkers was always my go-to away from chess.

Chess rules are so so simple.  But concept is a bit harder to grasp. One of the main concepts is to fight for the center. It is often said: The one who controls the center, controls the game. You lose the center, you will be in a position to defend yourself and hope to somehow exploit your oponents defense.

You can learn theory (one opening for white and one for black). I suggest London system for white and French defense for black. Very easy to learn.

I used to enjoy chess a lot in high school, but now I haven't played it in years. I never got into online chess and finding chess loving friends is not an easy task anymore.
